I'm actually surprised that there are so many negative reviews. We thought the food was fantastic as well as the service. Went here back in May, should note, I bookmarked Crown Shy on a Yelp a long time before they received their Michelin Star, so was pleasantly surprised to see the plaque on the wall upon our arrival. We ate: (complimentary) bread- pesto filled Gruyere Fritters, Mafaldine, Rock Shrimp, Chorizo Branzino with broccoli rabe and pinenuts Dessert, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Apple Sorbet While it is expensive, as is dining these days, we felt it was worth it for the experience. Highly recommend Crown Shy.

The food was DELICIOUS! The service was incredible! However, please take into account that I'm not a frequent Michelin restaurant goer so I'm giving you the impression of some "normal guy". Only thing is the $100 short rib. If I had to do it again, I'd skip on it but I think it's because it came towards the end of the meal and we were already pretty full by then so we weren't able to appreciate it to it's true value.

I came to this Michelin restaurant for my cousins birthday as it was one of the only few restaurants in Manhattan to seat a party of 8 late notice. Our server recommended us share family style as this restaurant serves fancy fusion dishes. Melon milk punch (5/5): this cocktail drink included vodka, honeydew, sticky rice, coconut, and milk. This drink was very unique so I had to try it. It tasted like a light honeydew pina colada. I really enjoy how sweet it was and it reminded me of tropical paradise. Hummus (4/5): I thought the hummus was really good, but the rest of my party was very impressed by it. Beef Carpaccio (5/5): just perfect Hamachi (5/5): thick cuts of raw hamachi that was drenched in beautiful strawberry Octopus (5/5): the octopus was very tender and had very nice spices to it. Pork katsu (5/5): this dish actually blew my mind as it was the best Tonkatsu I've ever had it my left. It was not dry at all and was super juicy it. This dished lived in my head rent free the day after

Standard but good high end restaurant! I came here for a team dinner around 6pm on a Friday, and the restaurant was pretty empty when we came in. The lighting was kind of dim, but we liked it. Service was great, and the servers were very attentive and checking in on us the right amount. Food was pretty good overall. The complimentary bread was some of the best I had - it was pistachio bread with chive butter. Appetizers were all pretty good, but nothing stood out. We had the snapper, hamachi, gruyere fritters, beef carpaccio, and green hummus. Main courses were all super good! We had the ricotta gnocchi (my favourite), scallops, malfadine with lobster, pork katsu (also my fave). Everything was very well seasoned, the gnocchi was really big which was unique. So soft as well as great sauce to go with it. Unfortunately we had no room for dessert but would definitely want to try the satsuma orange ice cream and sticky toffee pudding next time.

The service was great. The server was very knowledgable about the food and provided great recommendations. They were friendly and remembered reservation details. If you look to the side, you can see the kitchen, which is pretty cool! The vibes were modern/sleek, and we love a nice restroom. Complimentary bread and butter: My boyfriend described this as soup in bread and butter form, and that was exactly what this tasted like. Gruyere Fritter, Chili, Lime: Seeing photos of this immediately intrigued me. It had the texture of a churro with cheese inside. It was unique for sure. Pork Katsu: To be honest, the Yelp photos I saw made this look a lot smaller than it actually was. In reality, it was like a jumbo pork katsu, enough for two people. (It's a good portion for the price.) This was too fatty for my taste because it made the dish feel oily and heavy. However, it was very crispy and the fat and meat melted into my mouth. Roasted Short Rib: The combination of everything worked so well together. The bread reminded me of Chinese green onion pancake but without the green onion. On its own, there's not much flavor, but it's perfect for eating with the rest of the dish. You get pico de gallo on the side, which I spread on top of the bread and then topped with 2 pieces of short rib. The short rib just completely melts into your mouth, and it was cooked to the perfect temperature. The braised pork on the side was flavorful as well. Genmaicha Matcha: This is the perfect way to end your meal. You get a whole pot, but the warm tea is a great way to end the meal. Satsuma Orange: If you order this, you should try it with the genmaicha matcha! A bite of cream and sticky brittle with the warm tea... just picture it. This tasted like a creamsicle popsicle in ice cream form. This has me curious on what it'd taste like eating a creamsicle popsicle topped with brittle crumbs. Complimentary chocolate mocha cupcake: I didn't expect them to provide free cupcakes, but the icing flavor was amazing. It wasn't too sweet, and the cake was moist.

I came to eat here for an anniversary dinner with my gf. The food was definitely next level temperature was perfect and flavor was really good. I have no complaints but that the pork katsu had a bid to much fat other than that its was properly cooked to perfection and the coleslaw and sauces were perfect. My gf and I just loved the short rib it was phenomenal and for $100 I believe it's a good experience and you get what you pay for. The meat although it was cut and plated the temperature was consistent and stayed warm throughout the whole time we ate. The dessert was super good too the roasted marshmallow blended really well with the match tea we got. And the orange ice cream just brought back nostalgic memories or my childhood eating orange ice cream. Service and ambiance was amazing and I fully understand why it received a Michelin star rating. Keep up the good work will come back again so wait for us crown shy!!!

I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from Crown Shy, but I actually really enjoyed my time here! It was impressively non-pretentious for a Michelin star restaurant, without sacrificing anything on quality of food or service. One thing to note is that the restaurant opens at 5pm but only in the bar area, with the dining rooms opening at 5:30pm. We were seated near the open concept kitchen, and we loved watching the chefs. The restaurant also had modern music playing and fun decor which helped the atmosphere feel less stuffy and more fun. Maybe inspired by how much we saw flying around in the kitchen, we ordered a 8 plates (including 3 mains) across the menu for a party of 3. Not all were to my personal taste, but even in those that weren't my favourites, I could appreciate the play on flavours and the presentation. The free bread lives up to the hype, by the way - definitely a contender for one of my favourite complimentary carb dishes I've ever had. For items I'd order again, it'd be the beef carpaccio, octopus, katsu, and satsuma dessert, though there's also a ton of other things on the menu I'd like to try. I'll definitely be back! I feel like it's tough in NYC to find quality favourites that aren't also impossible to get into - Crown Shy is the perfect gem for that.

Michelin one star in 2023. Been wanting to try this place ever since we stumbled upon while waiting for overstory. Glad they are participating in nyc restaurant week. We got the pre-fix menu for $60pp. Portions are definitely on the small side, but I loved every item that I got. Highlights: 1. Really loved their beef carpaccio. 2. Branzino (a newer item on the menu), so juicy, and flavorful, but portion was so small 3. Their infamous dessert was the sticky toffee pudding and it was def very unique! 4. One of the things I love about crown shy in addition to how good their food is their drinks are super unique that incorporates elements that you don't normally encounter. For example: I really enjoyed their cantaloupe and chamomile whore Negroni as well as the melona milk punch, both use such unique ingredients like cantaloupe and melon, something that you wouldn't see at other restaurants. 5. Very happy with the dining experience, and def highly recommend!
